Dulay challenges interim WBA king Romero

FILIPINO-ITALIAN Austin Dulay challenges interim World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight champion Roland Romero on July 17, 2021 at the A&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, USA.

The 25-year-old Dulay will be fighting the biggest fight of his career in his first 12-round title fight.

Dulay last saw action on Nov. 21, 2020 and walked away with a unanimous decision win over Jose Gallegos at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

Dulay’s career losses are against interim WBA super featherweight king Chris Colbert and former world title challenger Diego Magdaleno.

Dulay, born in Nashville, Tennessee to a Filipino father and an Italian mother, is currently the 12th ranked fighter in the WBA lightweight division.

Romero, on the other hand, is a 25-year-old unbeaten fighter that’s on the rise. He won the interim WBA lightweight belt with a unanimous decision over previously undefeated Jackson Marinez on Aug. 15, 2020 at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Romero, a native of Las Vegas, fought once in 2021 and scored a seventh round technical knockout of Avery Sparrow.

The Dulay vs. Romero fight is the main supporting bout of the Premier Boxing Champions’ show that is headlined by a world title unification clash between World Boxing Council, International Boxing Federation and WBA light middleweight champion Jermell Charlo against World Boxing Organization light middleweight titleholder Brian Castaño.

Dulay is 14-2 with 10 knockouts, while Romero is 13-0 with 11 knockouts. (EKA)
