Edlab’s remains to stay at City Hall for 2 days

THE body of Cebu City mayor Edgardo Labella is set to be brought to Cebu City Hall on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, to allow city government employees to pay their last respects.

Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak, who was tasked to organize the transfer of Labella’s body to City Hall, told reporters that the mayor’s coffin will be brought from Crystal Palace in Barangay Lahug starting 11 a.m.

The hearse that will carry Labella’s remains will pass by Salinas Drive, Juan Luna Avenue, M.J. Cuenco Avenue, Mabolo Church then proceed to Labella’s house in Barangay Mabolo.

After passing by the late mayor’s house, the hearse will proceed towards New Imus Road, M.J. Cuenco Avenue, Plaza Independencia, making a turn at M.C. Briones Street before stopping at City Hall.

Labella’s coffin will then be placed in front of the Legislative Building where the necrological service for the late mayor will take place.

Tumulak said they have placed tents outside City Hall to make way for those who plan to pay their last respects to Labella.

Health and safety protocols will still be observed to prevent a mass gathering from taking place, Tumulak added.

Road closures on streets surrounding City Hall such as Magallanes, M.C. Briones, M.J. Cuenco Ave. and P. Burgos Streets will also be implemented.

No cars will be permitted to park within the City Hall’s vicinity and those with cars are instructed to park at Compania Maritima beside Senior Citizen’s Park, Tumulak said.

On Friday, November 26, Labella’s remains will be brought to the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral where a requiem mass will be held for him.

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma will lead the mass for Labella.

After the mass, Labella’s remains will be brought around the city before he is brought to his final resting place at Golden Haven Memorial Park in Barangay Binaliw.
