EOC: Only 4 hotels serve as isolation centers

THE number of hotels being used as isolation centers has dropped to four, according to the Cebu City Emergency Operations Center (EOC).

They offer a total of 125 rooms to patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) who are asymptomatic.

Of the 125 rooms, 55 are occupied, as of Saturday, May 22, 2021. That leaves 72 rooms available.

City Councilor Joel Garganera, deputy chief implementer of the EOC, said there used to be eight isolation hotels in Cebu City that offered more than 300 rooms for Covid-19 patients.

The improvement of the Covid-19 situation in the city has prompted other hotels to stop offering rooms for coronavirus patients, Garganera said.

“Our cases are so low at present,” said Garganera in a statement on Sunday, May 23.

Other isolation facilities in Cebu City are also in good condition.

The EOC data dated Saturday, May 22, show that only 20 beds are occupied in the Cebu City Quarantine Center with 140 beds available. In barangay isolation centers, 97 beds are occupied with 183 beds available.

The New Normal Oasis for Adaptation and a Home (Noah) Complex, meanwhile, no longer accommodates patients as it will officially close on May 30.

According to the same data, Cebu City has 367 active Covid-19 cases.

The city has logged a total of 24,029 Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic last year with 22,798 recoveries and 864 mortalities.

The total positivity rate in the city as of May 22 was 8.89 percent out of the 270,355 individuals tested. (JJL)
