Farmer dies after touching live wire while harvesting coconuts

A 20-YEAR-OLD farmer was killed after getting electrocuted by an exposed electrical wire while harvesting coconuts in Barangay Armeña, Malabuyoc town, southwest Cebu on Thursday morning,April 7, 2022.Police identified the fatality as Bongbong Quintinita, a resident in the same barangay.MSgt. Ronidio Duerme of the Malabuyoc Police Station told SunStar Cebu that it was Quintinita’s common law wife who found his body around 10 a.m. at a grassy lot just 30 meters away from their house.Duerme said according to Quintinita’s common law wife, the victim had left their house early Wednesday morning to harvest coconuts so that they can dry and sell them for copra, a coconut by-product used in manufacturing cooking oil and livestock feed.Duerme said Quintinita reportedly attempted to harvest the coconuts on a tree with an exposed low-lying electrical wire during a downpour on that day.Quintinita’s common law wife told police she began to notice her partner’s absence at around nighttime when the victim didn’t show up at their house.The victim’s live-in partner decided to conduct a search the day after and eventually found his body below the coconut tree he was harvesting.The victim was not given immediate medical attention since nobody had witnessed the incident.
