Fernandez murder may be personal, says SITG

LOCAL police believed that the murder of lawyer Rex Fernandez may have been personally motivated and not because of his professional dealings.

Members of the Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) looking into Fernandez’s death said they have secured evidence tending to show that Fernandez’s murderer had knowledge of the lawyer’s regular whereabouts.

Lt. Col. Wilbert Parilla, deputy director for operations of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said that based on what they have gathered, they found out the suspect behind Fernandez’s murder had known where the lawyer would go.

Parilla said the suspect may have communicated with Fernandez just before the ambush.

Parilla said the SITG has evidence to suggest that Fernandez’s murder was personal.

While the SITG also placed four officials of Bamboo Bay Condominium in Mandaue City as “persons of interest” after they were identified by Fernandez in a Facebook post as the ones to be blamed should he would be murdered.

The SITG has invited Beverly Dayanan, chief executive officer of Contempo Property Holdings Inc. and Bamboo Bay Condominium officials Deryl Vargas, Fabian Abalos and Joji Tajanlangit to help them shed light on their investigation but as of press time, they have not appeared before police.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Central Visayas likewise is conducting its own probe on Fernandez’s murder. (AYB, ANV / JKV)
