Filipino-Australian artist Esky launches single ‘Good as Gold’

FILIPINO-Australian hip-hop artist Esky returns with his single “Good As Gold” set to release on Aug. 13, partnered with complimentary visuals nodding toward his Filipino culture and family.

The track, produced alongside frequent collaborator Korky Buchek, will hook listeners in with its upbeat feel-good melody and Esky’s nostalgic flow reminiscent of the Golden Age of Hip-Hop.

The music video directed by Victor Tran, brings forth a perpetual summer vibe that will remind you of young love and all the giddiness that comes with it. A family affair, the video stars Esky’s nephew and his best friend while the rest of his clan worked behind the scenes providing the cover art design, hair and makeup, and even catering—an experience the artist deems nothing short of amazing. The retro-themed video pairs seamlessly with the song’s old-school sensibilities.

“‘Good As Gold’ was written about a breakup I experienced and going through the stages of grief and loss of that relationship. In the moment of writing it, I was in a space of acceptance and gratitude about the relationship,” shared Esky.

Growing up in the ‘90s, Esky credits iconic groups like A Tribe Called Quest and OutKast as sources of inspiration. This influence is evident in his boom bap era rap style that could be compared to more modern successes such as Goldlink and Childish Gambino.

Esky is steadily gaining popularity in his home city of Sydney, Australia. His single with Astro High, “Whip,” featuring iDigress, Phil Fresh, Dusty Peaches has been played on Australia’s national music video platform, rage. On the other hand, his solo effort “Into We” has received well-deserved airtime on the popular national radio station, Triple J as well as notable community radio.

Esky is only getting started, as he plans to continue releasing singles and building his listenership throughout 2021 and beyond. (PR)
