Fratmen hold clean-up drive, beautification activity in Mandaue City

A LOCAL fraternity chapter celebrating its 53rd anniversary on Monday, Oct. 4, 2021 led a clean-up drive and planting of ornamental plants at Zuellig Avenue in Mandaue City.

The clean-up drive conducted by members of the Tau Gamma Phi Mandaue City chapter is part of the fraternity’s nationwide simultaneous activities during their anniversary.

Buddy Alain Ybañez, the head of the Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) and a Tau Gamma Phi member, told Sunstar Cebu that they usually celebrate their anniversary through a motorcade.

But this year, Ybañez said, they were advised by Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes to make a tangible activity that will be beneficial to the City.

They decided to have a clean-up drive and planting of ornamental plants that can serve as beautification in the area.

More than 100 members participated in the activities to clean and plant along the one-kilometer-long Zuellig Avenue, said Ybañez.

Arnold Malig-on, operations head of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team) and also a member of Tau Gamma Phi, said that they failed to finish their clean-up drive and planting due to the heavy rain brought by Tropical Depression Lannie.

But Malig-on said they have finished planting around 50 percent of the center islands along Zuellig Ave.

Malig-on said they will continue doing these activities every Sunday. (KFD)
