Gaballo takes on Ricardo Sueno in a World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental bantamweight belt on Oct. 29 at the Lagao Gym in Gen. Santos City.
Gaballo has been out for close to 10 months since suffering a fourth round knockout in the hands of Donaire Jr. in all-Filipino world championship fight for the World Boxing Council (WBC) bantamweight strap on Dec. 11, 2021 at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
The 26-year-old Gaballo first rose into prominence after a unanimous decision upset over Stephon Young to claim the interim World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight crown in Hollywood in 2018. Two years later, he proves that he’s in the elite class after a split decision over Emmanuel Rodriguez to win the interim WBC bantamweight belt in Uncasville.
Gaballo is still currently ranked No. 7 by the WBC and No. 14 by the WBO.
Sueno should be a good return bout for Gaballo, which could determine what level he’s at right now.
Sueno is a tough fighter that’s only been knocked out twice. He has faced the likes of John Paul Gabunilas, Regie Suganob, Japanese prospect Taku Kuwahara and Thai up-and-comer Thanongsak Simsri.
Following three straight defeats, Sueno is fresh from a third round knockout of Ernie Mino Jr. on Aug. 7 at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque City.
Gaballo is 24-1 with 20 knockouts, while Sueno is 11-6-4 with four knockouts.
Also seeing action in the same card are undefeated Ian Sampan (6-0, 5 KOs), veteran former world title challenger Froilan Saludar (32-6-1, 22 KOs) and former UFC fighter Jenel Lausa (11-0-1, 7 KOs).
