Geraldo, Waminal lose in Japan

MARK Anthony Geraldo and Jess Rhey Waminal are the latest Pinoy warriors to fall in Japan.Geraldo, an experienced pug that has fought some of the best in his division, dropped a lopsided unanimous decision to 24-year-old Japanese prospect Ryuto Owan on Aug. 30 at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.Owan got the nod of all three Japanese judges with identical scores of 79-72 across the board.Geraldo lost his second straight fight after losing to budding Pinoy star Carl Jammes Martin late last year. Geraldo is now 38-11-3 with 19 knockouts.Owan won fourth straight bout and improved to 9-1 with six knockouts.Waminal, in the meantime, also lost by unanimous decision to his Japanese opponent, Ryo Nakai.Nakai also outclassed Waminal and won on all three scorecards with identical 80-72 scores from Japanese judges.Waminal, a former ALA Boy, continued his slump and lost his third fight in a row. He fell to 14-6-1 with eight knockouts.Nakai improved to 5-1 with two knockouts.Geraldo and Waminal are the 10th and 11th Pinoy pug to lose in Japan in August. They join the likes of Adam Diu Abdulhamid, Rechel Calo, Jhunriel Ramonal, Tomjune Mangubat, Jonathan Taconing, Ranelio Quizo, Jun Blazo, Jonathan Almacen and Pete Apolinar.Former world title challenger Jeo Santisima is the only Filipino to win in Japan in August after stopping Hiroshige Osawa in five rounds.
