Globe launches Nat’l SIM Registration Week on Feb. 20

HEADS of communication agencies joined Globe Telecom in launching the National Sim Registration Week on Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, for a more aggressive approach on SIM registration efforts.

Department of Information and Communications Technology Undersecretary Anna Mae Lamentillo emphasized the importance of registering SIM cards before the April 26 deadline, as they are not looking to extend it.

As of Feb. 13, there were 32 million registered SIM cards, or 19.7 percent of the 168 million SIM cards in use in the country, according to the DICT.

Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay, who was present during the press conference, said they have been helping telecommunication companies set up registration booths in the barangays to encourage members of the public to register their SIM cards.

“So it’s always best to cascade the services down to the barangay level. So hindi lang (it’s not only at) City Hall, maganda din na gawin yan sa mga (it’s also good to hold the registration in the) barangay,” Binay said.

National Sim Registration Week will end on Sunday, Feb. 26.

A Globe representative said that they have been providing more booths and resources in the Visayas and Mindanao regions to cater to anyone who may be in need of assistance.

The National Telecommunications Commission and DICT warned users that if they don’t register their SIMs, their cellphone numbers will be deactivated.
