ONE barangay in Cebu City has four active Covid-19 cases left. This is the highest among 18 barangays that have Covid-19 cases as of Dec. 9, 2021.

Based on data from the Emergency Operations Center headed by north district City Councilor Joel Garganera, the barangay with the highest number of active cases is Guadalupe, which has a population of 68,269.

It is followed by Brgy. Banilad with three active cases, Tisa with three, Kalunasan with two and Day-as with two active Covid-19 cases in the last 10 days.

Barangays Bacayan, Basak San Nicolas, Camputhaw, Inayawan, Kasambagan, Lahug, Mabolo, Pit-os, Sambag II, San Antonio, Santa Cruz, Talamban, Tejero, Adlaon, Agsungot, Apas, Babag and Basak Pardo each have one active case.

During the third surge of Covid-19 in July and August 2021, Brgy. Guadalupe’s active cases exceeded 300 while the top five barangays each had three-digit active cases.

The city has 80 barangays.

Garganera said Cebu City has a high chance of achieving zero active cases in the coming weeks so long as everyone continues to cooperate and observe health protocols.

He also thanked the frontliners such as medical doctors, staff, police, government workers and barangay officials who he said should be credited for the recognition of Cebu City by the Department of Health as the best local government unit in Central Visayas in terms of best practices for Covid-19 response.
