Gunman who killed cop had links to big-time drug group, says CPPO

THE suspected drug seller who allegedly gunned down an anti-drug operative in Consolacion just before getting killed himself in a follow-up operation had been a member of a big-time drug syndicate in Central Visayas.Officials of the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) made public of this conclusion just after they lodged murder and frustrated murder charges against the girlfriend and the getaway driver of Reynaldo “Tatskie” Ydil before the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor’s Office.Ydil was allegedly involved in the killing of SSgt. Careby-Clyde Alinsug in Barangay Casili, Consolacion town on June 5, 2022.Hours after killing Alinsug, Ydil was gunned down by police officers who were trying to arrest him in an encounter in Sitio Tarcom, Barangay Busay in Cebu City.During the operation, Ydil’s girlfriend, Ariane Gocela, and his getaway driver, Danilo Aguilar, were arrested as accomplices to Alinsug’s murder.Lt. Col. Mark Gifter Sucalit, CPPO deputy director for operation, said they had received information concerning Ydil’s involvement in a drug syndicate in Central Visayas. Sucalit said they are set to conduct follow-up operations to determine Ydil’s cohorts.Based on information they had gathered, Sucalit said Ydil’s illegal drug operations were focused within Cebu Province’s component cities and nearby municipalities.Sucalit said that despite Gocela’s claims that she has no involvement in her boyfriend’s crimes, she and Aguilar had been spotted with Ydil several times whenever Ydil delivered illegal drugs to pushers.Sucalit said Ydil had sourced his illegal drugs from his contacts in Luzon. But Sucalit refused to divulge further the identities of Ydil’s suppliers.
