Guv Cup back after 2-year hiatus

AFTER a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, the Cebu Provincial Government will finally bring back the Governor’s Unity Volleyball Cup (Guv Cup). The sports activity is open to Cebu’s 51 local government units (LGUs) including the cities of Cebu and Lapu-Lapu.During a meeting that was also attended by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, Board Member Glenn Anthony Soco of Cebu’s Sixth district announced that Guv Cup will serve as a “unity game” for all LGUs in Cebu.“This would also signal the relaunch of sports in the entire Province of Cebu,” Soco said through Capitol’s media arm Sugbo News. The Governor’s Cup is set to be conducted next month as one of the highlights of Cebu Province’s 453rd founding anniversary.Chad Salimbangon of the Cebu Volleyball Association (Ceva) said they were also planning to hold tournaments for women 21 years old and under and for men’s and children’s divisions.“This is very, very meaningful to us in Ceva, and we hope that we could deliver a very good tournament for the 2022 Governor’s Cup,” Salimbangon said on Tuesday, July 12, through Sugbo News. This will be the 10th Guv Cup that will be held since it started in 2005 during the first term of Garcia as governor.
