Gwen Garcia expects support from Cebu 2nd, 7th Districts mayors

GOVERNOR Gwendolyn Garcia is expecting the support of mayors from the second and seven districts of Cebu as she reiterated Friday, September 17, her decision to run for the gubernatorial post in the 2022 elections.

Garcia, in a live press conference Friday during her caravan in Boljoon town, thanked the mayors for their support, saying she will not be governor if not for their support.

She also thanked the officials for their support in the Province’s fight against coronavirus disease (Covid-19), saying the whole province has remained united in implementing the health and safety protocols despite the rise in Covid-19 cases in previous months.

She said the seventh district, led by Representative Peter Calderon, has assured her of their support to her candidacy.

“Kana lang gyud ang akong ikapasalamat no, kay without their full support, I don’t know kung mahimutang pa kaha ta karun sa atong gikabutangan. We were faced with a challenge. Recently, nisaka pero nanaog naman sad,” she said.

Meanwhile, Garcia hit former Cebu representative Ramon “Red” Durano VI, saying the latter has no idea what she had done while the Province is battling the Covid-19 pandemic.

Garcia’s statement came after Durano said that he will push former Tourism secretary Joseph Ace Durano to run for Cebu governor in next year’s elections to better address the health concerns of the Cebuanos amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Garcia said she leaves to the public the decision on who to vote in next year’s polls.

“Mao tong naay nag-comment nga si Red nga padaganun kuno si Ace tungod sa kahimtang sa probinsya. Well because he was talking so many things bahin sa health, bahin sa kuan nganu diay unsa diay atong kahimtang okay ra man ta diba?” Garcia said.

“I will just say one thing, it’s either he said that because he does not know any better and that can be excused kay kutob ra man gud sila og Fifth District, and now murag wa pa man gani, di naman iya ang Fifth,” she added.

“I think makamao naman (ang) tawo motan-aw and they have their own mind. You cannot continue to create your own half-truths or lies. That’s up to the people actually. It’s for the people to decide eventually,” she said.

She said that so far, she has not known yet other possible candidates for governor, except Ace. (MVE/LMY)
