Homecare Center in Lapu reports Covid-19 cases, placed on lockdown

THE facility for children in conflict with the law (CICL) in Lapu-Lapu City has been placed on lockdown after 30 of its youth residents and a staff member tested positive for Covid-19.

The lockdown started on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2021. It will end after 14 days.

The oldest of the youth residents of Homecare Center is 17 years old, while the youngest is six years old, according to Grace Mary Carungay, the city epidemiological and surveillance unit officer.

Homecare Center in Brgy. Gun-ob is a temporary shelter for CICL and victims of abuse.

Before the discovery of the infections, Carungay said one of the youth residents was swabbed as he was about to be released and was bound for travel to Iloilo with his family.

The minor tested positive for Covid-19, that resulted in the swabbing of 60 minors and all the staff of Homecare Center.

Carungay said they could no longer trace whom the minor contracted it from.

Lapu-Lapu City Rep. Paz Radaza went to the facility on Aug. 8. She delivered grocery items such as packs of biscuits, instant noodles, instant champorado, bottled water, loaves of bread, sandwich spread and roasted chicken over the weekend.

She also delivered multivitamins and paracetamol, and health kits with bottles of alcohol, masks, face shields and disinfectant.

The items were placed outside the gate by the lawmaker and her staff. (GCM / KFD)
