KWF to hold National Congress on Endangered Languages

THE Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) will hold the Pambansang Kongreso sa Nanganganib na Wika (National Congress on Endangered Languages) ​​on Oct. 24-26, 2022 at the National Museum in Manila.The event is in line with its mandate to preserve the country’s native languages ​​and in response to the International Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022-2032 (Idil 2022-2032).The national agenda for the protection of the endangered language and the result of the implementation of Bahay-Wika and Master-Apprentice Language Learning Program will also be presented here as the government’s first language revitalization program in the country. It will also discuss the steps taken by institutions to protect communities and indigenous languages, indigenous language research and important issues related to endangered languages ​​such as language documentation, documentation practice, field methods, orthography development and other related topics. This will serve as a starting work for the Idil 2022-2023, so a resolution will be developed regarding it.The purpose of the congress is to encourage indigenous peoples and communities to document their language and create research; and present/discuss best practices in research, program development for language revitalization and other issues affecting language.The method that will be used in the congress will be hybrid—the keynote speakers, interviewers, presenters and some participants will be in person, while other participants will be via Zoom, an internet-based video-conferencing application.
