La Joya Farm Resort and Spa: A tapestry of legacy and serenity

Nestled in the picturesque town of Aloguinsan, Cebu, La Joya Farm Resort and Spa beckons weary urban dwellers to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse themselves in a sustainable paradise.

This idyllic retreat, located on Jose G. Escario St., is a testament to the enduring love and dedication of the Escario family for their land. With a rich history spanning generations, La Joya Farm has evolved into a haven where guests can unplug, unwind, and reconnect with nature.

A legacy rooted in history

The story of La Joya Farm began in the late 1800s when Gregorio Mendoza “Gorio” Escario and his wife, Victoria Gandiangco Escario, inherited a vast expanse of land from Gorio’s aunt. Gorio further expanded the estate through his work as an overseer for President Sergio Osmeña Sr. After Gorio’s passing in 1928, the responsibility for the land passed to his children, including Jose G. Escario, who played a pivotal role in its development.

Community building and philanthropy

Jose, along with his siblings, contributed significantly to the local community. They planted numerous native trees, developed the plaza, and constructed a chapel. Additionally, a portion of the land was donated for the construction of San Jose Parish–Rosario Aloguinsan, as well as Sto. Rosario Elementary School and National High School. An open gym was also built, fostering education and solidarity among the townspeople.

Continuing the legacy

In 2017, Jose’s grandchildren — Maria Socorro “Corito” Escario-Yu and Janice Doreen Escario-King — along with their mother, Corazon “Zony” Borromeo-Escario, took on the responsibility of preserving and expanding the farm. Despite living in California, Corito returned to Aloguinsan and embarked on a journey to develop the farm’s potential. With her husband, Joseph S. Yu, she began constructing structures and introduced new products and skills to uplift the community and the town.

A sustainable haven

La Joya Farm Resort and Spa stands today as a testament to the love and dedication that each generation of the Escario family has poured into the land. The resort offers a unique experience where guests can find solace in the comforts of nature and indulge in the freshness of locally grown fruits and vegetables.

The dome and villa accommodations, with their serene ambiance, provide an escape from the stresses of modern life, while the sustainable practices adopted by the resort ensure a minimal environmental footprint.

La Joya Farm Resort and Spa is more than just a destination; it is a testament to the enduring love for the land and the vision of a sustainable future.
