Labella urges mayors to follow vaccine prioritization

FOLLOWING reports of some mayors who have been inoculated against Covid-19, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella asked his fellow mayors to follow the order of prioritization.

Labella, who sits as chairman of the League of Cities in the Philippines (LCP), said the order of priority sectors was provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the country is using donated Covid-19 vaccines.

Citing what President Rodrigo Duterte said, Labella said the WHO may stop providing the free vaccines should the country fail to follow the order of prioritization.

“That is why it’s better for us to follow what is written in the guidelines. We should wait,” Labella said in a press conference on March 25, 2021.

Labella asked the Department of Health (DOH) to expedite the process and provide a timeline for the order of priorities.

Labella also asked the DOH to just provide to the next in line the vaccine should there be refusal to be inoculated.

Meanwhile, Labella said the City Government is waiting for the supply agreement with the Faberco Life Sciences Inc. that contains more specific details of the purchase.

Labella has signed the term sheet with Faberco.

Few doses left

On the second day of vaccination in Cebu City using the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccines, Cebu City Health Department (CHD) officer-in-charge Jeffrey Ibones said 887 medical workers and barangay health workers were inoculated at Robinsons Galleria Cebu and the University of Cebu-Banilad Campus.

Ibones said there are only 120 doses of AZ left in the city that will be used for the CHD personnel who are in charge in the vaccination program.

The DOH Central Visayas had allocated 1,600 doses of AZ for Cebu City. (JJL)
