Lagumbay loses to Hiraoka in Japan

ANOTHER Pinoy warrior has fallen in Japan after Alvin Lagumbay suffered a second round technical knockout loss to fast-rising Japanese prospect Andy Hiraoka at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan on Sept. 13.Hiraoka connected with a vicious counter left to the head of Lagumbay that wobbled him. The referee quickly intervened and stopped the bout at the 2:27 mark.Hiraoka won his third title defense of his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia Pacific super lightweight strap. He remained unbeaten 20-0 with 15 knockouts.The 27-year-old Lagumbay, a former WBO Asia Pacific welterweight titleholder, saw his streak come to an end and dropped to 13-6-1 with 11 knockouts.On the other hand, Danrick Sumabong fought to a split draw with unbeaten Kantaro Juri in a very close fight.One judge scored it 77-75 in favor of Sumabong, one judge had it 77-75 the other way around for Juri and the third judge scored it a 75-75 draw.With the draw, Sumabong is now 12-2-1 with nine knockouts, while Juri stayed unbeaten at 4-0-1 with two knockouts.
