Lapu City Hall employees may work from home amid rise in Covid cases

DUE to the continuous rise in Covid-19 cases in Lapu-Lapu City, its government is considering implementing a work-from-home setup for its employees.

However, this applies only to senior citizens and persons with disabilities in order to protect them from contracting the new coronavirus as they are more at risk than others.

According to Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan, this is what the city’s health experts suggested.

For several weeks now, the city has logged Covid-19 cases in the double digits, and one City Hall employee tested positive for the virus the other day.

Another reason for the move is that two coronavirus mutations have been detcted in the city, according to the Department of Health 7.

While the mayor wants the City Hall employees to continue serving the public during these times, he also wants to ensure that they stay safe and healthy.

There are 893 active Covid-19 cases in the city, but the mayor is hopeful that the number will eventually decrease, especially since it has been two weeks that the wearing of masks has been strictly enforced among the residents.

“This is also to avoid overcrowding at the City Hall. We encourage other non-essential workers to work from home because it’s safer there,” Chan said. (GCM / CCP)
