Liloan-Poro route to start on May 26

CEBUANOS will soon be able to hop in and out of the Camotes Group of Islands from the northern town of Liloan as two shipping firms will start to transport passengers and cargo there.

Oceanjet and Super Shuttle committed to provide the Liloan-Poro service during a meeting with Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia last Thursday, May 18, 2023.

Both companies will launch their maiden voyage from Liloan’s Pier 88 to Poro, Camotes Islands, according to Sugbo News, the Provincial Government’s media arm. The plan is to start the service on May 26.

Oceanjet conducted a test trip last Wednesday, May 17, using its 350-passenger ferry sailing from Liloan to Poro Port in Camotes to determine the travel time between the two ports and how much the fare will be.

Sailing at 22 knots or almost 40 kilometers per hour, travel time of one hour and 30 minutes.

The operator of the new port, Topline Group of Companies, Vallacar Transit (Ceres Bus Liner) and the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) 7 also assured the governor that the maiden voyage will happen soon.

According to the report, the two shipping companies will ply the Liloan-Camotes-Liloan route once daily. Oceanjet will depart from Liloan at 8:30 a.m. and the return trip will be at 1 p.m. on the same day.

Both Marina 7 and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board 7 have committed to issue the necessary permits for the said route, which will include a bus route from Cebu City to Camotes via Super Shuttle Roro vessel.

Sugbo News reported that Garcia pushed for the maiden voyage as this gives locals and tourists an alternative route to visit the islands.

At present, Jomalia Shipping Lines is the lone operator for the Cebu-Camotes route via the Danao Port in Danao City in northern Cebu.
