THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board in Central Visayas (LTFRB 7) is now conducting a study that will determine if routes for public transportation will be introduced in the newly opened Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).LTFRB 7 Director Eduardo Montealto Jr. told SunStar Cebu on Sunday, May 1, 2022 that the agency is now looking into the possibility of creating two or three developmental routes that will ply through the 8.9-kilometer expressway that connects Cebu City and Cordova town.The CCLEX was inaugurated on April 27 and opened its gates to the public on Saturday, April 30.Montealto added that they are also coordinating with different local government units for the incorporation of the new routes in their Local Public Transportation Route Plan (LPTRP).The LPTRP of the cities of Cebu, Lapu-Lapu and Talisay, and the municipality of Cordova will be reviewed since these are the LGUs that will be directly affected by the proposed developmental routes.The study being conducted will also determine the mode of transportation that will be allowed on the expressway, said Montealto.Montealto added that these could be public utility buses, modern buses or modern public utility jeepneys.The regional director further said the study will also determine the minimum fare that will be imposed, considering that a toll fee will be collected when accessing the expressway.“As much as possible, the toll fee should not be absorbed by the passengers. Kung naa man gani, very minimal lang (If there is, it must be very minimal),” said Montealto.Traffic improvementIn a separate interview, the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) said the traffic situation in Cebu City’s portion of the CCLEX already improved on Sunday, May 1 after the congestion that took place during the opening day, April 30.Paul Gotiong, CCTO’s deputy head for operations and spokesperson, said that the flow of traffic returned to normal around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30.“Yesterday, volume was high kay first day (the volume was high because it was the first day). I think most of the problem comes on the other end of Cordova due to the one-lane exit road,” Gotiong said on Sunday.Gotiong also noted that the long queue of vehicles near the toll plaza is normal, since cash is the mode of payment that is being used at the moment.As long as the motorists would follow the prescribed speed limit, traffic congestion would be avoided, said Gotiong.Gotiong added that there were people who traversed the CCLEX but immediately made a u-turn upon reaching the Cordova side of the expressway.“There were also reports of people stopping to take photos but that is on the end of CCLEX traffic enforcement team,” Gotiong said.CCLEX will soon activate its all-electronic collection system that will require vehicles to have a radio frequency identification (RFID).As of now, only vehicles classified under classes 1 to 3 are allowed to use the expressway.
