Luxury resort celebrates auspicious Year of the Water Rabbit

Culture is a wonderful thing. Along the lines of cultural congruence and exchange, people’s exposure to the various world cultures make humanity rich with meaningful interactions that foster respect and empathy.

These are all evident during the festivities that ring in the Chinese New Year.

In the last week of January, the Chinese-Filipino community in Metro Cebu lit up urban districts with the traditional lanterns and symbols that signal luck and prosperity for all the Cebuanos.

One establishment that has embraced the celebration of Chinese culture with its own grand event is The Reef Island Resort. Rising above the scenic view of Mactan’s shoreline, the luxury resort welcomes the Lunar New Year with a lavish feast both pleasing to the eyes and palates.

Resort manager Gerra Lizares kicked off the festive affair beginning with a special message.

“As we face this exciting year ahead of us—the Year of the Rabbit, The Reef Island Resort is humbled and honored to serve you in all your special occasions and celebrations. We assure you that every visit is worth a stay. Allow us to entertain you,” said Lizares.

More ceremonial activities followed, one of which was the highlight of the eye-dotting of the lion. It is customary to awaken the lion to usher protection and good luck. Once the eyes are dotted, the lions will come alive and be followed by the lion dances.

The resort also presented a sumptuous menu that came straight from the resort’s culinary expertise of Asian fusion cuisines. Among the several offerings, its take on the classic Hainanese chicken was a standout dish that the Cebuanos should try at the resort.

The Chinese community has provided the rest of the world with valuable lessons on how important it is to welcome a full cycle of luck and prosperity every Lunar New Year. As Cebu marks the transition from the Year of the Tiger to the Year of the Water Rabbit, prime establishments like The Reef lead the community in manifesting peace and prosperity for all.
