Man knocked out by punch, dies

A VEGETABLE vendor died after he was punched by an unidentified man in Sitio Taboc, Barangay Looc, Danao City in the early hours of Saturday, November 26, 2022.

The victim, who was identified as Mark Gil Albaño Nebria, a 38-year-old resident of the neighboring town of Compostela, was declared dead on arrival at the Cebu Provincial Hospital-Danao City.

Lieutenant Colonel Fortunato Ecle Jr., chief of the Danao City Police Station, said Mark’s brother James reported the incident to them around 3:40 a.m.

According to James, they were having a drinking session when his brother’s live-in partner arrived. She accosted him for being out so late and the two ended up having a row on the street. In the heat of their argument, Mark pushed his live-in partner.

James said an unidentified man approached Mark and told the latter not to hit the woman, which enraged his brother.

He said Mark told the man to mind his own business and the two argued.

He said the man suddenly punched his brother and knocked him unconscious.

The man then left, James said.

“Pagkahagba sa biktima nagtuo sila nga okay ra kay nakainom lagi. Unya wala na may panimoot gidala sa tambalan, DOA,” Ecle said.

(When the victim fell, they thought he was okay because he had been drinking. But when he didn’t regain consciousness, they brought him to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.)

Ecle said the suspect probably didn’t think Mark would die after punching him, as he only wanted the victim to stop hurting his live-in partner.

Ecle said he already ordered his investigators to identify the suspect.

Based on the findings of Dr. Nestor Casidre Jesson Lim at the Cebu Provincial Hospital-Danao City, the victim died of hemorrhage shock, subarachnoid hemorrhage secondary to blunt trauma and secondary to mauling. (GPL)
