Man shoots uncle, another relative; police eye old feud as motive

TWO men landed in the hospital after they were shot separately by a suspected drug pusher in Barangay Tagnucan in the northern town of Borbon, Cebu last Sunday night, March 12, 2023.

The victims were identified as Armando Sorinio, a 49-year-old single tailor from Barangay Muabog in the neighboring town of Tabogon, and Raymond Monares, a 33-year-old construction worker who also resides in Barangay Muabog.

The suspect, 34-year-old Noel Sorinio, is Armando’s nephew.

Police later arrested Noel, who also lives in the barangay.

Armando was shot in the face, while Monares was shot in the body.

The incident happened at 7:35 p.m.

Police recovered a homemade .38 revolver with four bullets from Noel’s possession.

Staff Sergeant Ernesto Pablo of the Borbon Police Station told Superbalita Cebu that an old conflict between the uncle and the nephew caused the shooting.

Pablo said Armando and Noel both had something to drink.

He said Armando was riding his motorcycle and was heading home when Noel flagged him and shot him.

He said Armando managed to run to a relative’s house and seek assistance.

Noel got on his motorcycle and left the scene, but when he saw Monares, a relative, crossing the street, he shot the latter.

Pablo said the uncle and nephew’s feud stemmed from when the two were arrested for illegal drugs. (GPL)
