Management of 2 major terminals in Cebu braces for Holy Week travelers

BUS terminals in Cebu have geared up for a possible influx of passengers that will travel during the Holy Week.Carmen Quijano, manager of the Cebu North and South Bus Terminals, told SunStar Cebu on Sunday, April 10, 2022, that around 40,000 passengers are expected to use both terminals on Maundy Thursday on April 14 and Good Friday on April 15.Quijano added that their office has already requested additional tents from the Cebu Provincial Government to be installed in the terminals. There are still areas in the terminals that have yet to be completely fixed from the damages brought about by Typhoon Odette (Rai) last Dec. 16.Quijano had hoped that the intermittent weather caused by Tropical Depression Agaton would improve in the coming days so the passengers would not be inconvenienced.Personnel in the terminals have been instructed by Quijano to monitor areas of the facilities for possible wet floors due to water leaking from damaged ceilings because it might cause accidents.Passengers must travel with light baggage; they must also bring umbrellas and rain coats, according to Quijano. In a separate interview, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Central Visayas Director Eduardo Montealto Jr. said they already conducted their inspections in the different terminals in the region last April 8.Montealto added that they have already inspected the roadworthiness of buses and issued inspection report summons to those who have not passed their standards. The regional director further said that the LTFRB personnel will be deployed to terminals to ensure that buses will adhere to the vehicle’s maximum capacity and strictly enforce the “no standing policy” inside buses.According to Montealto, there are about 500 buses in both north and south bus terminals.
