Mandaue City 97.5 percent compliant

MANDAUE City barangays have been compliant in submitting reports to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) regarding their monthly sidewalk and road clearing operations from March to August 2021.

According to a DILG memorandum, Mandaue City had a 97.5 percent compliance rate, surpassing the cities of Cebu and Lapu-Lapu.

The memorandum addressed to all local government units (LGU) in Central Visayas showed that in the region, Mandaue City had the second highest rate of compliance next only to the province of Siquijor.

In 2019, President Rodrigo Duterte directed all the LGUs to clear all national, city and barangay roads as well as the sidewalks from all types of obstructions.

Based on records from March to May 2021, Mandaue City achieved 100 percent compliance in reporting their road clearing operations, 96 percent from June to July, and 93 percent in August.

Cebu City’s compliance averaged 48.46 percent from March to August.

In Lapu-Lapu City, compliance averaged 32.83 percent for the same period, according to the DILG.

DILG-Mandaue City Director Johnjoan Mende clarified that the figures were not yet the road clearing rating of Mandaue City but only represented compliance of the different barangays in submitting reports of their road clearing efforts.

This also shows that many barangays in Mandaue City have been diligent in making monthly reports.

The Mandaue City Legal Enforcement Unit (MCUE) under the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team) turned over road clearing responsibilities to the barangays.

“We furnished the Team with that status of barangay reporting compliance because the Team is a critical factor in reminding the barangays to continue road clearing efforts,” said Mende.

DILG Regional Director Leocadio Trovela called on all LGUs to ensure the continuity of the barangay road clearing operations to make roads safer and accessible and free from illegal and potentially hazardous encroachments.

In other news, data from the Visayas Vaccination Operations Center (VVOC) on Thursday, Oct. 14, showed that Mandaue City also leads Metro Cebu in the vaccination of its eligible population.

The data shows 62.19 percent of Mandaue City’s eligible population had been given their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and 57.01 percent had been fully vaccinated.
