Mandaue City supports Gwen’s Sugbusog campaign

MANDAUE City Mayor Jonas Cortes, all City officials, and some residents pledged to support the Sugbuanong Busog ug Himsog (Sugbusog) campaign of Cebu Provincial Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

This was during the visit of the governor at the three garden participants of Sugbusog located in Barangay Subangdaku, Barangay Ibabao-Estancia and Barangay Canduman.

In her speech, Garcia said of all the gardens she visited from different municipalities and cities, it was her first time to witness the local chief executive, city officials, and residents of the barangay showing their support for the program through a pledge.

In the pledge, Cortes said residents of Mandaue City will volunteer and support the project to achieve the goal of the campaign to have healthy and satiated residents, particularly in this time of the pandemic.

Garcia congratulated the gardens in Mandaue City for winning some categories of the Sugbusog campaign.

Aside from Garcia, Cebu Sixth District Congresswoman Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon, Cebu Provincial Board Member Jonkie Ouano, Cebu Provincial Board Member Glenn Soco and Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede were also present at the occasion.

The garden of Barangay Subagdaku won the Best Barangay for Large Category at the district level, Best Purok for Backyard Category at the district level, and Best Household Backyard (Rogelio Sulad residence).

Ernie Manatad, barangay captain of Subangdaku, said the secret for having a well-grown garden is to do work with passion and love.

He said together with his wife Barangay Councilor Mona Manatad and his constituents, they have been working hand in hand in cultivating the 1.8-hectare garden since 2012.

The governor together with Cortes and city officials also visited the City Plant Nursery of Mandaue Agriculture located in Barangay Ibabao-Estancia.

They also visited the Best Household for Containerized Category and District Winner, the residence of Jesus Cortes located in Zone 4, Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.

The residence of Jesus Cortes is set to compete at the Provincial level. (KFD)
