Mandaue election office extends registration hours

AFTER they stop their operations for more than a month due to strict quarantine restrictions, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Mandaue City will extend its regular operating hours for two hours starting Wednesday, September 8, 2021, to continue its voters registration activities.

Mandaue City’s election office stopped its registration from Aug.

1, 2021, to September 4, 2021.

Lawyer Anna Fleur Abelgas-Gujilde, Mandaue City Election Officer, said they have extended their operating hours after a lot of residents requested to extend their voter’s registration after September 30, the deadline of the registration.

She said their office usually operates from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Mondays to Saturdays.

Now, they will start their operations from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Gujilde said with their registration hours now extended, they can accomodate new voters.

Gujilde admitted that the temporary stoppage of their operations has caused a delay in the registration.

She said they have peaked in the registration on July 2021 in which they have registered more than 200 registrants per day and they have already expected more registrants in August.

As of Monday, Sept. 6, around 170 individuals registered as new voters in Mandaue City.

As of Tuesday, Sept. 7, Gujilde said they have already registered 222,000 voters in Mandaue City.

In the last 2019 elections, Gujilde said there are 225,000 voters registered in the city.

Gujilde encouraged the residents in Mandaue City to book their appointment online so that they would be prioritized in processing their registration. (KFD)
