Mandaue’s Panagtagbo Festival Queen 2021 postponed

WITH the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) status of the city extended until Aug. 31, 2021, Mandaue City’s Panagtagbo Festival Queen 2021 final showdown on Aug. 27 is postponed indefinitely.

Mandaue City will commemorate its 52nd Charter Day on Aug. 30.

Ernie Manatad, president of the Association of Barangay Councils, said they have put on hold Mandaue City’s Panagtagbo Festival Queen 2021 final showdown this month due to the city’s extended MECQ status.

He said the Panagtagbo Festival will serve as a celebration of the culture and arts of the city.

On Aug. 11, the City Council passed on second reading the ordinance authored by City Councilor Immaline Cortes-Zafra, chairperson of the Committee on Tourism and by Manatad, granting P50,000 subsidy to each of the eight clustered barangays that were supposed to participate in the Panagtagbo sa Mandaue Festival.

The barangays in each cluster are Tipolo, Guizo and Subangdaku (Cluster 1); Centro, Ibabao, Mantuyong and Alang-Alang (Cluster 2); Looc, Opao and Cambaro (Cluster 3); Umapad and Labogon (Cluster 4); Tabok, Basak and Jagobiao (Cluster 5); Banilad, Bakilid and Maguikay (Cluster 6); Casuntingan, Cabancalan and Tingub (Cluster 7); and Casili, Cubacub, Canduman, Tawason and Pagsabungan (Cluster 8 ).

Manatad said this subsidy was agreed upon after the barangay officials requested the city mayor to provide them with extended support for the costumes, training and other inclusions that the participants would need, considering that the barangays are in a tight position due to the Covid-19 response expenses.

Despite the postponement of the activity, Manatad said they still passed the ordinance.

He said they are also grateful that the activity was put on hold so that they have enough time to process the necessary documents for the downloading of the subsidy and they could start preparing.

Meanwhile, the city council passed a resolution to request President Rodrigo Duterte to issue a Presidential Proclamation declaring Aug. 30, 2021 a special non-working holiday in the city of Mandaue and every year thereafter as the city celebrates its founding anniversary. (KFD)
