THE Talisay-Toledo Wharf Access Road, popularly known as Manipis Road, will remain closed to all types of vehicles as small landslides still occur along the area.
Jonathan Tumulak, head of the City of Talisay Traffic Operation Development Authority (CT-TODA), said that as of Friday, Oct. 29, 2021, police and traffic personnel have remained in Barangay Lagtang to prevent vehicles from entering the road.
Tumulak said it is still dangerous to cross the road as sudden rock fall and landslides would still occur in some parts of the route.
The road is known as a short cut for those traveling from Talisay to Cebu City or to Toledo City.
On Oct. 8, 2021, Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas Jr. closed off the Manipis Road after landslides brought about by heavy rains covered a portion of the road situated in Sitio Langoyon, Barangay Manipis.
Though personnel from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Second Engineering District based in Talisay City were able to clear the affected areas of debris, landslides would still occur.
Tumulak said clearing operations are still ongoing.
Tumulak urged motorists to temporarily not pass by theManipis Road until they are sure it is safe again.
Aside from the Talisay City Government, even local officials from Toledo City have prohibited vehicles from their end from using the road.
The Manipis Road has been known to be easily hit by landslides, which is why the DPWH has installed ripraps.
But there are portions that are still easily hit by landslides due to the softness of the soil in the upper part of the area crossed by the road.(REV / JKV)
