May 13 declared holiday

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has signed Proclamation No. 1142, declaring Thursday, May 13, 2021, as a nationwide regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr or the Feast of Ramadan, one of Islam’s holiest months.

Duterte signed the proclamation on May 10, according to a recent order issued by Malacañang.

Duterte also reminded members of the Muslim community nationwide to celebrate the feast of Ramadan with consideration to health and safety protocol being implemented as the country is still being ravaged by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The entire Filipino nation should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr, subject to community quarantine, social distancing and other public health measures,” Duterte added.

Eid’l Fitr or the “Festival of Breaking the Fast” marks the end of the month-long Ramadan. (JKV)
