MANDAUE City Mayor Jonas Cortes has confirmed that the Cortes-Ouano alliance remains intact and that his entire slate of councilors will run for reelection in 2022.
Cortes said he met with Sixth District Rep. Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon, her brother Provincial Board (PB) Member Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano and PB Member Glenn Soco.
They were joined by Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede and the mayor’s council slate composed of former congresswoman Nerissa Soon-Ruiz, Jun Arcilla, Ting Sol Cabahug, Malcolm Sanchez, Cynthia Cinco Remedio, Joel Mangubat Seno, Anjong Ouano Icalina, Jimmy Lumapas and Maline Cortes Zafra.
Cortes said all of them are committed to run under Team Mandaue next year.
Earlier this year, Ouano-Dizon said she would not be running for reelection since Mandaue City is now a lone congressional district.
According to Mandaue City Election Officer Anna Fleur Gujilde, there will be changes in the list of candidates city voters will pick in next year’s elections.
In the 2019 local elections, residents voted for mayor, vice mayor, 10 city councilors, two PB members and one representative for the Sixth District.
For the 2022 elections, residents will vote for mayor, vice mayor, 12 city councilors, two PB members and one representative for the Mandaue City District.
Cortes said they have yet to finalize the candidate for the two additional slots in the City Council, but they will announce them soon. (KFD)
