MCWD eyes Mangasang Falls as water source

THE Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) is now searching for water sources aside from pursuing the construction of desalination plants in Metro Cebu.

This hunt for water supply led MCWD chairman Jose Daluz III and directors Francisco “Frank” Malilong Jr., Miguelito Pato and Judelyn Mae Seno to visit Mangasang Falls in the mountain barangay of Tagbao, Cebu City on Thursday, June 24, 2021.

Mangasang Falls could supply 200,000 cubic meters of water per day in the rainy season, and 2,000 cubic meters of water per day in the dry season.

Infrastructure

Daluz said Cebu City has no shortage in its water supply, but it lacks infrastructure that can bring water from the mountains to the city’s urban center.

The MCWD official had also visited Budlaan Falls in Barangay Budlaan earlier this month.

As Tagbao is about 30 kilometers from Cebu City’s urban area, Daluz said a large fund is needed to construct a dam and install a network of pipes.

The chairman of MCWD’s board estimated that more than P1 billion in funds is needed to construct the infrastructure.

The MCWD board of directors is also scheduled to visit the waterfalls in Barangays Pamutan and Bonbon. (PAC)
