MCWD signs deals for new reservoir

THE Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) will soon have its own reservoir in Barangay Lusaran, Cebu City.

This after the MCWD signed on Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, joint venture agreements (JVA) with two firms amounting to P218.8 million for the development of Lusaran’s water supply.

The JVA aims to provide around 20,000 cubic meters of water per day to 20,000 MCWD consumers.

First, a JVA between MCWD and CG Integra Corp. / M.E. Sicat Construction Inc. was entered into for the construction of two modular tanks for a cost of P103.5 million. The tanks can keep 3,000 cubic meters of water.

Another contract worth P115.3 million was also awarded by MCWD to JFAP Construction / Optimus Engineering and Construction for the installation of a transmission line from the reservoirs to barangay Busay then down to barangays Lahug, Apas, Camputhaw, Kasambagan and others.

Jose “Joey” Daluz III, chairman of the MCWD Board of Directors, said they expect that by October 2022, these barangays will have water supply from Lusaran.

M.E. Sicat Construction president Michael Allan Sicat said they will quickly work on the tanks so that work would not have to reach the 300 days stipulated in the contract.

“What we do now is design the tank and then after that is the execution. So hopefully we can do it very fast. As we committed earlier, the people of Cebu can have their water as early as next year,” said Sicat.

Meanwhile, Daluz assured that for the years 2022 and 2023, MCWD will not impose any price increase; however, there will be an adjustment in MCWD rates by 2024 upon the approval of the Local Water Utilities Administration, Daluz said.
