Montilla debuts in ONE vs. veteran Wada

ERNESTO Montilla will make his ONE Championship debut against Japanese veteran Tatsumitsu Wada in ONE Friday Fights 9 on March 17, 2023 at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Montilla is coming into the ONE Championship cage full of confidence even though he’s considered as the underdog in this fight.

“I don’t care about being the underdog because I came to win,” said the 31-year-old Montilla. “He and his fans are in for a surprise this Friday.”

Montilla is the URCC flyweight champion and the former PXC flyweight titleholder. He has beaten some elite Pinoy fighters, with the likes of former UFC fighter Jenel Lausa, Jerome Wanawan and Ruel Catalan. He also fought but lost to the likes of Roldan Sangcha-an and ex-Bellator FC fighter Alvin Cadac.

Montilla was one of the fighters that competed in ONE Warrior Series Philippines show, wherein that winner earned a $100,000 contract with ONE Championship. He, however, was eliminated after suffering an injury in the reality show.

The 34-year-old Wada, in the meantime, is a veteran of 38 fights and is a former DEEP flyweight champion.

He has fought some of the best in the flyweight division with the likes of current ONE flyweight champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, Reece McLaren, Danny Kingad and Kairat Akhmetov.

Wada is eager to bounce back after losing to Akhmetov by unanimous decision in his last fight.

Montilla is 10-4 that includes six submission victories, while Wada is 24-12-2 with five wins by knockout and five wins by submission.

In the main event, ONE lightweight Muay Thai champion Regian Eersel (59-4) defends his belt against Thai challenger Sinsamut Klinmee (80-17-3). (EKA)
