AROUND 544 quarantine violators were apprehended by local police on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 or during the second day of the implementation of the Cebu City government’s “Oplan Puyo” operations.
Even though it was already the second day of implementation of “Oplan Puyo,” officials of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) said the number of quarantine violators increased.
Lt. Col. Wilbert Parilla, CCPO deputy director for operations, told reporters that a total of 290 quarantine violators were apprehended for violating the city’s curfew policy, including 98 minors.
Some 254 others were apprehended for not wearing face masks.
Majority of those apprehended were caught in the interior sections of the city’s barangays.
Of the 544 quarantine violators who were apprehended, around 44 were from Barangay Ermita while 25 were apprehended in Guadalupe.
Around 24 minors were apprehended in Barangay Sawang Calero.
Parilla explained that more quarantine violators were apprehended during their operations as their personnel have included the sitios in their patrols.
Aside from their city-wide patrols, Parilla said they have also organized quarantine control points (QCP) in barangays where Covid-19 cases were very high.
“Our QCPs will check on every person exiting or entering the barangay and will also check if they have any essential business outside of their residence. We also require those who have essential business to leave their IDs at the QCP,” Parilla added, in a mix of Cebuano and English.
During the weekend, acting Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama signed Executive Order 137, which enforces a mandatory stay at home order in the entire city, except for essential trips, as a way to address the increasing number of Covid-19 active cases and the possible spread of the more contagious Delta variant in the city.
