More than half a million Cebu City residents jabbed

The Cebu City Government has vaccinated more than half a million residents against Covid-19 as of Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021.

City Health Department (CHD) officer-in-charge Dr. Jeffrey Ibones said 366,556 residents were now fully vaccinated while 146,825 residents who had received a first dose were just waiting for their second dose.

Based on the department’s record, 771,431 people had already registered to be vaccinated.

There were 15,311 minors aged 12 to 17 years old who registered.

The CHD’s numbers on the fully vaccinated in Cebu City are lower than the tally posted on Project Balik Buhay’s Facebook page of 381,102 fully vaccinated individuals as of Nov. 8, because there are institutions conducting vaccinations that have yet to send their reports to the Cebu City Health Department.

Ibones also announced that 1,117 youths had been vaccinated with the first dose.

Councilor Joel Garganera, deputy chief implementer of the Emergency Operations Center, said Cebu City is intensifying its Pop-up Vaccination wherein vaccinators go to the barangays so the city can more quickly reach herd immunity, commonly defined as getting 70 percent of the population vaccinated.

The city has a population of about one million.

Garganera said pop-up vaccination is now available in eight barangays so that residents, especially mountain dwellers, can no longer give the excuse that they do not have time to get vaccinated at vaccination sites that are far away.
