MVP keen on investing in CCLEX ramps, Metro Cebu expressway

BUSINESS tycoon Manny Pangilinan is considering investing billions of pesos in two major infrastructure projects in Cebu, including the construction of additional ramps for the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).Aside from the additional CCLEX ramps, Pangilinan is also planning to pursue a possible public-private partnership (PPP) for the ongoing Metro Cebu Expressway project that will run from the City of Naga in southern Cebu to Danao City in northern Cebu.In a report provided by the Cebu City Public Information Office on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022, Mayor Michael Rama was happy that Pangilinan is considering to invest P1 billion for the construction of additional ramps for the CCLEX.When Rama traveled to Manila last August 9 to conduct his “investment begging,” the mayor reminded the business tycoon about the CCLEX’s original plan to include a ramp that will connect the bridge to Barangay Guadalupe.Several days after the inauguration of CCLEX, Rama vowed to push for the construction of the additional ramp. The mayor also welcomed Pangilinan’s enthusiasm to further pursue the proposed Metro Cebu Expressway project without compromising the protection of watershed areas.“These will further help us realize soon our vision for a Singapore-like Cebu City, nine years in just three years,” Rama added. The construction of the Metro Cebu Expressway, which started in 2018, has suffered several setbacks due to a lack of funding, particularly in its third segment which is located between the city of Naga and Minglanilla town.In an earlier report, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Central Visayas Director Edgar Tabacon said even though the National Government has allocated around P4.5 billion for Segment 3’s completion, the project remains in limbo as the funds for its use were being released on a staggered basis.
