National candidates’ motorcades limited to 20 vehicles

CARAVANS launched in Cebu City by supporters of candidates running for national positions will be limited to 20 vehicles only.

Councilor Joel Garganera, deputy chief implementer of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), said this is what was initially agreed upon by the EOC so the motorcades don’t cause traffic congestion.

The plan still needs to be approved by the office of acting Mayor Michael Rama.

If approved, the councilor said, this would be the template for the caravans of candidates running for senator, Vice President and President.

Garganera said this would do justice to the national candidates who wish to meet their supporters and reveal their platforms so that they can be chosen by the people.

He admitted that there is no example yet on which they can base this style of conducting a caravan at this time of the pandemic brought by the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

In addition, the EOC deputy chief implementer said motorcades should not be focused on having the most number of vehicles as these will just cause delays in the journeys of other motorists.

The EOC has entrusted to the Cebu City Transportation Office and Cebu City Police Office the traffic management and safety of the motorists who will participate in such motorcades. (PAC)
