NEWLY appointed Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) president and general manager Jose Arnulfo “Wick” Veloso wants the agency to go all digital for its transactions, and he also supports the government’s infrastructure-building efforts.Veloso told reporters on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022 that he wants pensioners and beneficiaries to have a total customer service experience; he wants also the GSIS to help in the development of the country during his term.Veloso also said he aims to invest members’ hard-earned premium contributions to help the government build more infrastructure.Building more infrastructure in the provinces would help disperse economic development across the country, he added.He said the GSIS plans to invest its funds in industries that promote growth in sectors such as power, water, food production, telecommunications, healthcare, financial services and consumer goods.“We are very keen to be part of the infrastructure push of the government to ensure that our young population is provided with everything they need to attain their full growth potential,” Veloso said.App launchingOn Wednesday, the enhanced GSIS Touch mobile app was officially launched to the public.Veloso said the app was initiated last year in 2021 during the time of then GSIS chief Rolando Ledesma Macasaet.On Feb. 25, 2022, GSIS announced it would launch the enhanced version of the app that includes features that allow active members to generate tentative computations of their loans and claim benefits, keep track of their premium remittances and loan payments, and check dividends, among others.The pilot testing for the updated GSIS app was held last July with the GSIS employees as participants.Veloso said they fast-tracked the app’s enhancement after he found out that some areas in the country do not have accessible GSIS satellite offices like Romblon in Luzon.The app, Veloso said, would help pensioners and beneficiaries do GSIS transactions, including payments and loans, through their mobile phones.Other app features include fingerprint or facial image login, motor vehicle claims (for members and government agencies with vehicles insured with GSIS) and loan application processing.Margie Jorillo, vice president of GSIS’ corporate communications office, said a QR (quick response) code is also provided to members for direct access to downloading the app on Google Play Store or Apple’s App Store.Jorillo said a P15 service fee is charged for every transaction through the app.Veloso said they have partnered with the Department of Information and Communications Technology to enhance the app’s digital propositions, such as access to GCash, PayMaya and other electronic money issuers.Veloso was appointed as GSIS’s new president and general manager last July 5.Before his appointment at GSIS, Veloso had served the banking industry for about 40 years.He was previously the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Philippine National Bank. In 2012, Veloso was also appointed as the first Filipino CEO of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp. (HSBC) Philippines and worked there for six years until 2018.Veloso also served as president of the influential Bankers Association of the Philippines from 2015 to March 2022.
