Nicholas faces Fujita in Japan debut

UNBEATEN prospect Daniel Nicholas makes his international debut on June 3 as he takes on former amateur Japanese standout Kenji Fujita in an eight-rounder at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

The 23-year-old Nicholas, who fights out of the PMI Boxing Gym in Bohol, Philippines finally gets his chance to prove that the real deal when he steps out of his comfort zone by fighting in enemy territory against an experienced ex-amateur stud in Fujita.

Nicholas had an impressive year in 2022. He won four of his fights by stopping Mark Anthony Rotilles, Marjon Piencenaves and Jerry Pabila, before winning the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Oriental Youth featherweight strap with a split decision over Jestine Tesoro.

Although Fujita only has three pro bouts under his belt, he’s had a ton of experience in the amateur ranks. He fought 173 fights as an amateur and finished with a record of 153 wins and 21 losses with 40 wins by knockouts. He’s a 10-time national champion and turned pro after falling short of a spot in the Olympics.

Fujita made his pro debut in 2021 with a sixth round technical knockout of Motosuke Kimura. He faced Tesoro in the second pro bout and beat him by unanimous decision. He followed it up with a win over another Pinoy fighter—Ronnie Campos, who knocked out in four rounds.

Nicholas is 7-0 with four knockouts, while Fujita is 3-0 with two knockouts. (EKA)
