O’Leary gains control, Magno falls

FIL-BRIT Irvin Magno’s had a rude welcome in his ring return following a long hiatus after suffering a points decision loss to unbeaten Irish prospect Pierce O’Leary in MTK Global’s boxing show at the Bolton Whites Hotel in Bolton, England.

The first three rounds were competitive but the 20-year-old O’Leary controlled the second half of the fight and dominated Magno.

The 28-year-old Butuan City native, however, refused to give up and showed a ton of heart by finishing all six rounds on his feet.

Referee Steve Gray scored it 59-55 for O’Leary.

O’Leary remained unbeaten and improved to 6-0 with two knockouts, while Magno dropped to 5-4-1 with a knockout.

In the main event, Brit Gavin Gwynne (13-2, 3 KOs) stopped Irish Sean McComb (11-1, 5 KOs) in seven rounds to claim the vacant Commonwealth lightweight title. (EKA)
