ONE ‘Empower’ has new date

THE all-women ONE “Empower” show is already set with a new date on Sept. 3, 2021 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.

The event, which features the ONE Women’s Atomweight Grand Prix, was originally scheduled on May 28 but was postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Unbeaten Filipina prospect Denice Zamboanga is among the best eight atomweights that will be competing in the Grand Prix.

The 24-year-old Zamboanga, currently the No. 1 ranked atomweight, takes on former UFC fighter Seo Hee Ham.

Zamboanga made her ONE debut in 2019 and immediately rose to the top of the atomweight division following wins over Jihin Radzuan and former worlds title challenger Mei Yamaguchi.

Seo, on the other hand, was signed by the UFC in 2014. She fought and lost to Joanne Calderwood by unanimous decision in “The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale” show. She won her next UFC fight against Cortney Casey by unanimous decision before losing back-to-back to Bec Rawlings and Danielle Taylor in 2016.

Since then, Seo has won six straight contests, fighting in Road FC and Rizin Fighting Federation. She’s coming off a split decision win over Ayaka Hamasaki in 2019.

Zamboanga is 8-0, while Seo is 23-8.

The other Grand Prix fights are Alyona Rassohyna (13-4) vs. Stamp Fairtex (5-1), Meng Bo (17-5) against Grace Cleveland (5-0) and Itsuki Hirata (4-0) vs. Alyse Anderson (5-1).

The winner of the Grand Prix becomes the next challenger of ONE atomweight champion Angela Lee.

The main event of “Empower” is a title defense of ONE strawweight champion Xiong Jing Nan (15-2) against Michelle Nicolini (6-2). (EKA)
