P74M for Cebu City’s ‘asphalt storm’

THE Cebu City government is allocating a total of P74 million to fix damaged roads across the city.Engr. Joel Reston, officer in-charge of the City’s Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW), said the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC) had already conducted the pre-bidding for the road works on March 1, 2022.Cebu City Councilor Jerry Guardo, chairman of the committee on infrastructure, said the asphalt overlay project is expected to start by April after the conduct of the proper bidding for supply and delivery of raw asphalt materials such as aggregates, bitumen, and diesel and ready-mixed asphalt.Reston, who is also the vice-chairman of the BAC for infrastructure, said the raw asphalt materials can be processed at the City-owned batching plant, while the ready-mixed materials can be poured directly on the roads to cover potholes and overlay concrete pavement. The “asphalt storm” road repair project is part of Mayor Michael Rama’s “21-gun salute” impact project after he assumed as city mayor after the death of the late Mayor Edgardo Labella in November last year.Reston said barangay captains who want to have damaged roads in their villages fixed may send a letter of request to City Hall.
