Pacatiw downs Chen in soaring debut

Team Lakay bantamweight prospect Jeremy Pacatiw had an impressive debut in ONE Championship after a convincing unanimous decision over Chinese Chen Rui in the undercard of ONE – “Battleground” on July 30, 2021 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.

Pacatiw showcased his complete arsenal, displaying his dreaded striking skills and his impressive ground game.

Pacatiw attacked Chen with some vicious strikes in the opening round. He then mixed it up ang took Chen down and attempted a rear-naked choke but to no avail.

In the second round, Pacatiw displayed an array of kicks, which Team Lakay fighters are known for, but he couldn’t connect. As soon as Chen got comfortable with his strikes, Pacatiw changed his strategy and took him down. The 25-year-old Pacatiw attempted a guillotine choke but failed again in his submission attempt.

Chen did a better job in the final round and was able to defend well against Pacatiw’s takedown attempts. Chen finished strong by pinning Pacatiw to the cage with a hail of strikes. However, Chen’s strong third round performance wasn’t enough to get him the win.

Pacatiw, who spent the last three years at Brave FC, is now 11-4, while Chen suffered his second straight defeat and dropped to 9-3.

In the main event, Prajanchai PK.Saenchai Muaythaigym (338-51-3) dethroned fellow Thai Sam-A Gaiyanghadao (370-48-9) by unanimous decision to win the ONE Muay Thai strawweight title. (EKA)
