Pagasa: Rain with a mix of fine weather coming up

WITH the onset of the rainy season, the state weather bureau stationed in Mactan, Cebu said Metro Cebu can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms in the following days.

Jhomer Eclarino, Pagasa-Mactan weather specialist, however, said just like other areas in the country, Metro Cebu may expect breaks in rainfall events because of the monsoon break, which can last for several days or weeks.

“It won’t necessarily rain every day. There’s such a thing called monsoon break, which makes it possible for us to experience fair weather,” he said in a mix of Cebuano and English.

Pagasa officially declared the onset of the rainy season on Friday, June 4, 2021, which was confirmed by the passage of tropical storm “Dante” and the occurrence of widespread rainfall monitored by Pagasa five days before it issued the declaration.

Pagasa also said the probability of near to above normal rainfall in June and July is high.

Eclarino said the average normal rainfall for June in Cebu is 190.4 millimeters (mm).

However, because of tropical storm Dante, which brought a total rainfall volume of 102.7 mm in Cebu from 8 a.m. on June 1 to 8 a.m. on June 2, he said it is possible that Cebu will have an above normal amount of rainfall this month. (WBS)
