Pages: Exciting times for Cebu sports

THE Cebu City Sports Commission’s (CCSC) has promised to help promote sporting events in the city as training and competitions start to increase in a new normal setup.Just last week, the appointment paper for the new and official composition of the CCSC board was released by the Cebu City Government.CCSC chairman John Pages will lead the commission together with vice chairman and City Councilor Donaldo “Dondon” Hontiveros. Former chairman Edward Hayco is appointed as chairman emeritus.“Edward Hayco, thanks to his 12 years of leading the CCSC, will continue to assist the group as chairman emeritus, particularly with our grassroots programs and dancesport,” said Pages.Exciting times await the sports enthusiasts in Cebu as events return after about a two-year halt caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.“The new CCSC is looking forward to helping promote the multitude of sports and events that have come back. In the months to come, we also look forward to the return of classes, and the return of training and competition sports among thousands of students. These are exciting times for Cebu sports,” said Pages.Councilor Noel Wenceslao, who sits as the new chairman of finance in the Cebu City Council, joins the CCSC board as former chairman of finance and now Vice Mayor Raymond Garcia exits CCSC.The other new member of the board is renowned sports physician Rhoel Dejaño.“We welcome the entry of Dr. Dejaño, who was with the CCSC years ago. His return is timely because, given the Covid-19 pandemic that we are undergoing, we need to organize programs that will help the fitness and good health of the Cebuanos,” said Pages.“As one of the top sports doctors in Cebu, Dr. Dejaño has helped thousands of athletes and patients become healthier. We’re looking forward to working with him to make Cebu a robust and active city.”Pages is grateful for the service of lawyer Troy Malilong who will leave CCSC after his years of service.“We thank Atty. Troy Malilong for his years of service to the CCSC. Whenever we encountered questions that required legal expertise, we always sought his good opinion. He was a big help to the sports commission.”Completing the members of the CCSC board are Councilor Jessica Resch, chairperson of City Council’s committee on youth and sports development; Dr. Rhea Mar Angtud, representative from the Department of Education-Cebu City Division; Jessica Honoridez, private sector representative; Lorenzo “Chao” Sy, private sector representative; Rodulfo Diorico, private sector representative; Amilo Lopez, CCSC executive director; and Gayle Grace Dico, board secretary.
