Palicte faces Moloney today, June 5

FORMER world title challenger Aston Palicte takes on world-rated Jason Moloney for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver and World Boxing Organization (WBO) International bantamweight belts today at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia.Palicte looks to continue his winning streak after winning his last three fights.Palicte demolished both Jonathan Francisco and Reymark Taday, and schooled Roland Jay Biendima via a lopsided unanimous decision.Palicte then challenged for a world title against fellow Filipino Donnie Nietes for the vacant WBO super flyweight belt in 2018. Palicte fought Nietes to a split draw in the United States.Palicte challenged for the same WBO super flyweight belt, vacated by Nietes, the following year. He was unsuccessful and lost to Kazuto Ioka via a 10th round stoppage.Palicte is currently rated No. 6 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and No. 14 by the WBO.Meanwhile, Moloney won his last two fights against Joshua Greer Jr. and Francisco Portillo both by unanimous decision.Moloney lost in two world title attempts against Emmanuel Rodriguez for the IBF bantamweight title in 2018 and Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue for the IBF and World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight straps.Moloney is closing in on another world title shot. He’s rated No. 2 by the WBC, No. 3 by the WBO, No. 8 by the IBF and No. 9 by the WBA.Palicte is 28-4-1 with 23 knockouts, while Moloney is 23-2 with 18 knockouts.The Palicte and Moloney fight is one of the featured bouts of the world title unification bout between George Kambosos Jr. and Devin Haney.
