Pangga TKOs Antaran in ‘Bakbakan sa Compostela’

FORMER amateur standout John Vincent Pangga continues to shine in the pro ranks with a first-round technical knockout of Carlito Antaran in the main event of “Bakbakan sa Compostela” last Saturday night at the Compostela Gym in Compostela, Cebu.Pangga, the 2017 ASBC Junior Boxing Championships flyweight champion, immediately showcased his caliber and landed crisp jabs to the head of Antaran.He would soften Antaran up with accurate jabs before landing a solid right that hurt the veteran.Pangga followed up with another vicious left that dropped Antaran on one knee. Antaran walked it off a bit and quickly fell on one knee again. Antaran would beat the 10-count but referee Tony Pesons felt that he was unfit to continue and waved off the fight at the 1:06 mark.Pangga proved that he’s one of the young pugs that everybody should keep an eye on.Pangga remained unbeaten with 6-0 with four knockouts, while Antaran dropped to 5-7-1 with three knockouts.Journeyman Ernie Sanchez spoiled the ring comeback of Anthony Sabalde after knocking him out in the fourth round.Sanchez won his second straight fight and improved to 21-17-2 with 12 knockouts, while Sabalde, who came off a three-year layoff fell to 13-11 with eight knockouts.In the undercard, Kit Garces (3-0, 3 KOs) demolished battle-scarred veteran Belmar Plaza (4-14-3, 2 KOs) in two rounds, Anthony Gilbuela (5-1-1, 1 KO) scored a fifth-round TKO against Jimpol Dignos (2-5, 1 KO), Kenneth Egano (4-1, 2 KOs) stopped Jayar Aliasot (6-5, 5 KOs) in the second round, Reycar Auxilio (3-1, 2 KOs) TKOd Jusue Bastillada (3-1, 1 KO) in the fifth round, Alex Xandre Bonita (4-0, 4 KOs) knocked out Jomari Ladera (2-4, 1 KO) in the opening round, John Niño Vega (1-0) had a successful pro debut with a unanimous decision over fellow debutant Jason Mapait, and Marco Pumar (2-1, 1 KO) outclassed Kier Torregosa via a lopsided unanimous decision.
